My name is Tania Constantin and I am from Buzau. I graduated from National College “B.P. Hașdeu” and I will start my studies in Psychology at University of Birmingham.
I realised what psychology means to me and my evolution only in the USA, in the academic exchange I had in 2019. During my American experience, I gathered over 320 hours of volunteering, either at the nearby hospital, at the local asylum or in cafes for disadvantaged people. One of the happiest moments was the state competition FCCLA (Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America), where I won the gold medal for presenting Romanian culture on a psycho-social background.
After returning to my country, I set out to implement my own projects for my community, thus becoming more and more aware of the importance of my interactions. For example, Relay Day 2019, the week of the world association Terre des Hommes dedicated to career guidance in Romania, was a first opportunity for me to test my recruitment skills and I had the role of Local Coordinator. I mobilised local businesses, sponsors and professionals so that my participants could better discover the labor market. Subsequently, I was selected for practical workshops at the US State Department in Warsaw and Kiev, to demonstrate my social involvement side by side with dozens of other Europeans. As a result, in February 2020, I created and coordinated Shark Tank 2.0, a national entrepreneurship conference for high school students, a weekend in which I presented, together with 3 well-known speakers, current issues in society from an entrepreneurial point of view.
Personally, my studies at University of Birmingham are important to follow both my academic and personal plans. The University is among the most sought after in Europe for their Psychology programme, and the curriculum offered will develop me in the field. In the future, I would like to use my knowledge of psychology to guide people and businesses as a consultant or counselor. Education will help me fulfill my dream, the mission to give back to the community.
A well-known obstacle so far is the very high cost. Although I plan to find a part-time job and my parents try to support me, the differences are not to be ignored. I hope, however, that with your help I will be able to cover some of the accommodation, transport and textbooks / courses expenses.
Thank you for your support!
Yours,
Tania Constantin
