Oliviu is now studying at University of Manchester with your help. Here are his impressions after the first months of the academic year.
Almost two months ago I arrived in Manchester for the first time. In the meantime, I realised that this was exactly what I wanted for my period of uncertainty about what, exactly, I wanted to do next. At first, I was surprised by the intensity and level of the courses, but that didn't make me change my mind because all my colleagues were equally surprised.
Regarding the financial needs, last month I had to make an expensive payment related to accommodation. I managed to cover it with the help of the money obtained from the scholarship and from the salary from the summer job. Two more installments of the same amount and for the same purpose will have to be covered in the next few months, expenses that I hope I will be able to cover through a job. Another necessity is a laptop, because for now I can hardly handle it with a 4-year-old one which no longer fulfills the functions of a laptop.
This week was "reading week" at University of Manchester. So, not having courses, I decided that it would be better to try to be up to date with the subject and have everything ready so that next week I can start applying for jobs. For now, I can say that I looked for jobs, but I did not apply. I was very motivated to start working in September, but I couldn't do it because having a job requires having a National Insurance Number and a bank account, things I only managed to get in October. In October, all my classes started to be even more intense and my schedule was turned upside down from all points of view. So, next week I will go to the university's Career Service which is very efficient and I will be able to find a job in time.
Thanks a lot,
Oliviu Hetea
